Seesaw portfolios
As a teacher in RCSD, you are encouraged to create and maintain student learning portfolio's. Seesaw is a digital tool that can serve many different purposes for you in the classroom. Most importantly, this tool allows your students to document and share their learning with their parents. Parents can download the mobile app, which will allow them to view all of their child's work on their phone. Lucky for you, Seesaw can also serve many other purposes within your classroom. Here are just a few:
Steps to create a Seesaw account:
1. Go to web.seesaw.me/ and click "SIGN UP FREE" in the middle of the screen.
- Communication tool with parents.
- Student learning journal, with the ability to add photos, record videos, draw pictures, add external files, write notes, and add links.
- Teachers can create activities for students to complete. There is also a large database of pre-existing activities for teachers to choose from.
- Classroom blog
Steps to create a Seesaw account:
1. Go to web.seesaw.me/ and click "SIGN UP FREE" in the middle of the screen.
2. Choose "I'm a Teacher" and fill in the appropriate information. Make sure to use your RCSD email as you will get notifications and updates from Seesaw.
3. Seesaw will automatically prompt you to "Create Your Class" and name it. We would suggest using using your last name and the school year. Example: Kerr 2018-2019
4. Now that you have created your classroom Seesaw account, you want to add students to your account. Click the wrench in the top right of the screen and then choose "+ Students".
5. You will be asked if you "Want your students to sign in to Seesaw using their Google account or email address." You want to choose yes, as the students will use their RCSD email accounts to sign into Seesaw. If working with students in grade 3 or lower, you should choose No for this section.
6. Click yes and it will lead you to directions on how to get your students connected to your Seesaw account. They will need to go to the Seesaw website and choose "I'm a student." Once they do this, they need to enter the unique code given to your classroom. Don't do this too far in advance as that code is only good for one week. If it expires, Seesaw will generate a new code for your students to use.
7. Once you've successfully created your classroom Seesaw and added students you will want to get parents connected ASAP so they can see what's happening in your classroom!
